A Gift on Saint Valentine Day |

Saint Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. I am looking forward to its coming for the whole year impatiently. It is the most romantic holiday ever. According to old legends, St. Valentine was considered the patron Saint of sweethearts. Lovers of all ages observe this festival on the 14 of February by sending tokens of their affection to the person they most admire. These generally take the form of elaborately decorated greetings cards addressed simply "To my Valentine" without any signature. These cards are called Valentines. Girls can send Valentines to boys, too, if they like. On Valentine's Day you usually get a lot of Valentines with the most varied verses with beautiful words of admiring and without signatures, so you sit and wonder, trying to guess who could have sent them. Cards and presents of all descriptions and prices are out on the market. Red satin heart-shaped cushions enthroning "pearl" neck-laces and "diamond" brooches in pretty boxes, decorated with fancyribbons, entwined hearts, gold arrows, roses, cupids are on display in the stores. Last year my dear boyfriend David decided to present me beautiful lacy underwear. It supposed to be a surprise. Also, 14 February is a birthday of David's Grandmother. So, he bought two presents for me and for his dear Granny at the same store and of course, he had two absolutely the same gift bags, only in one was underwear for me and in the second one was a bathrobe. And by some quirk of fate, he accidently mixed them up. And I got to my favorite romantic holiday the bathrobe. But after his explaining I understood everything. But it was very hard to explain to his Grandmother that this lacy underwear he bought not for her. It would be very interesting to see his Granny's face when she saw her birthday present. First words she said were: "Oh, how did you know I was dreaming about?" His Granny is a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. So, it was a very funny story connected with St. Valentine Day and very often we talk about it. | |
